Mrs. J. R. Gill Dies Suddenly
Mrs. J. R. Gill, a resident of Scio for many years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Erskine J. Shumaker in Jefferson, last Saturday morning. Heart disease is said to have been the cause of her sudden passing away. The funeral and burial occurred in Scio Monday afternoon.
Mrs. Gill was born near Nashville, Tenn., May 27, 1851. She came to Oregon and to Scio in 1880. With the exception of one year in Colorado and two years at Ashland, Or., her home has been in Scio. Her husband John R. Gill died some years ago.
She is survived by three children; Mrs. Grace Butcher, Yakima, Wash., Byron Gill, Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Erskine J. Shumaker of Jefferson Ore.; three grandchildren and one great grandchild and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Ficklin of Scio. Mrs. Gill affiliated with the Christian Church when a young woman and maintained her membership until death.
