John married first to Sarah Davidson. She died December 31, 1890 in Pawtucket, RI.

According to the book, Andrew Newcomb and his Descendants, John Thomas Newcomb was a brick mason and plaster. "He enlisted for the Civil War, 6 July 1861; won a medal of honor during the war; was promoted to rank of Sergeant for an act of valor which was outside the call of duty; he fired a shot that took the Confederate flag from Ft. Sumter and placed the Stars and Stripes there; he also saved two comrades from drowning; served in Co. D, 3rd Artillery; mustered out 17 Nov. 1865."

John also resided in Pawtucket and his children were born there and later in his life he lived in Central Falls.

Children by his first marriage William Davidson born 19 Aug 1867, John Milton born 14 Sept. 1870, Frederick W. born 3 Mar. 1892.

He married second, 1891, to Sarah Parker Garde, a widow, daughter of John Parker and Anna Somerville.

James Everett was born 18, Feb. 1892.
