Pioneer Deadwood Couple to Observe 50th Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Frank H Allen, widely-known pioneer residents of Deadwood, will observe the 50th anniversary of their marriage on Friday of this week, with a quiet open house at their home at 725 Main street, Deadwood, friends learned this week. They will be home from 2 o'clock in the afternoon until 10 o'clock in the evening.

Emma Shirley and Frank Allen were married in Rapid City a the home of Mr and Mrs Will Barber, on April 28, 1889, by Reverend Hancher, who later was head of the Hot Springs college. Mr and Mrs Barber were the attendants. The bride wore a brown dress, trimmed with bead work and fringe, she recalls.

Mrs Allen's brother, Will Shirley, a former Deadwood resident, brought the first train into Chadron, Nebraska, as engineer.

Mr Allen has been interested in various mining properties and projects in and around Deadwood for the past thirty-five years. He was connected with the Lucky Strike at one time, and still is interested in several properties.
