AMES LESTER
On Saturday, October 7, 1989 at the St. Boniface Hospital, after a lengthy illness, just past his 80th Birthday, Ames Lester, beloved husband of Rose Lester of Winnipeg.
A Service of Memory will be held on Wednesday, October 11 at 3:00 p.m. from Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton, Fr. K. Sabawa, C.Ss.R, officiating. Service will terminate at the chapel. Cremation has taken place.
Besides his loving wife of 59 years, Rose, he leaves to mourn his son Alfred and wife Marjorie of Vancouver, B.C.; daughter Rose Marie Harris and husband Alan of Holland, Man.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Margaret and husband Jim Ratcliffe of Winnipeg; his brother Harry and wife Marion of Portland, Ore.; and his brother Art and wife Virginia of Beausejour, Man. He was predeceased by his parents, one sister and four brothers and his youngest son Frank of Seattle, Wash.
Ames served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and was a longtime member of the Weston Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 2, Old Timers Association. He was a service manager for Carter Motors for many years until his retirement at age 65 and was involved in many amateur sports, notably bowling and fastball. He managed and coached at least one Carter ball team to a Manitoba Championship.
Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Kidney Foundation or the Alzheimer Society.
