The community is also thrown into great excitement over the death of L.L (sic S.) Brewer, at the hands of W.J. Clemons, who is now at large. The cause of the trouble grew out of a quarrel concerning whisky traffic, in which it seems that Brewer was underselling Mr. Clemons, which he (Clemons) took offense at. They had been partners for years in the mercantile business, but at the time of which I speak, Clemons was running a distillery, and, being called upon by Brewer, in the course of the conversation a dispute arose, then a difficulty, in which Brewer was shot, and mortally wounded, by Clemons.
