Son of Elijah and Louvina Jane (Hurt) Davis. Husband of Viola Drew Davis, whom he married in 1900. Father of Edith Gardner, Leo Davis, Cleo Abell, Portman Davis, Abigail Rothrock, Nellie Davis, Mary Thompson & Imogene Davis. He was widowed in 1919 and married Barbara Dixon Frasier in 1927. Stepfather of Cyntitha Frasier.

He was a coal miner and a lifelong resident of Muren, Pike County, Indiana. He died at Church Nursing Home in Princeton after an illness of several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Louvina Davis, wife Viola, and daughters Nellie, Imogene & Abby.
