Henry Hunt,84, resident of Erath county for 58 years, died at 4:30 o'clock Friday morning,July 18, in Liberty comunity, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Singleton with whom he had made his home since his wife's death, May 19, 1932.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Liberty tabernacle, with Father Cline, paster of Thurber Catholic church, officating. Rev.W.L.Stewart, Baptist minister and life long friend of the family and Rev. S.B. Culpepper, paster of the First Baptist Church, Stephenville assisted in the rites.
Burial was made in the cemetery at Liberty, with Hardin Funeral Home in charge of arraingments. The four sons and four grandsons acted as pallbearers. The four grandsons were: Edgar, Jodie, and Earl Singleton and John Hunt.
Henry Hunt was born March 2,1851 in Luxembourg, Germany. He came to America in 1868 with his parents and their entire family of seven sons. His parents settled in Fort Madison, Iowa, where his father died in 1873. His mother also died at the family home in Fort Madison, Iowa in 1898. Afer the death of his parents, Mr. Hunt went to St. Louis , Mo., and was married there on April 12, 1873 to Miss Mary Josephine Hillenbrand. Three years after their marriage, they moved to Grimes county,Texas,where they lived for one year and then moved to the Hannibal community, near Exray in December 1877. From then until his death Friday morning that part of Erath county had been his home.
Mr. Hunt is survived by one daughter and four sons, as follows, Mrs. M.N.Singleton of Liberty; C.A.Hunt, Stephenville; W.L.Hunt,Huckabay; Herman H.Hunt,Liberty; Joseph H. Hunt,Dalhart. One daughter, Emma May Hunt,died Aug 28, 1898, and another daughter, Rosa Hunt died June 24,1901.

Henry Hunt was born in Saxony,Germany on March 2nd,1951. His father, also Henry Hunt, was a baker and brought his wife and six children to New York in 1869.From there, they moved to Fort Madison, Iowa and then to St. Louis, Missouri,where the elder Henry Hunt died in 1871. The Hunts' children included Henry., John A., Charles A., William, Frank (wo died at 5),and Harmon V. Mrs Hunt, Mary Catherine Stoltze, remarried after Hunt's death, first to Mr. Wadinger and later to Anton Bigner.
Henry Hunt apprenticed as a locksmith and later worked as a blacksmith in Fort Madison. He ran a coopering business in St. Louis with his brothers.
In 1874, Hunt married Mary Hillerbrand, who was the daughter of a butcher/hotel operator in St. Louis. In 1877 they moved to Texas settling briefly in Grimes Couty and then in December, of 1877 came to Erath County, renting land on Barton' Creek from D.L. Thornton. By 1881, he was able to purchace 320 acres with his brother William and in 1887, built a two story home. The home was described as an "L" shaped dwelling with a main section measuring 14'x .12'.
The Hunt's had seven children: Lillie, Charles, Mary, Rosa, Louis, Hermann, and Joseph.
