Robert T. Bradley passed away April 3, 2008. He is survived by wife, Rosamond Bradley.
ROBERT T. BRADLEY Fighter pilot decorated for 65 WWII missions.
Robert T. Bradley was decorated for flying a P-51 Mustang fighter on 65 missions over Europe during World War II.
He was shot down twice and is believed to have shot down five enemy aircraft and destroyed two locomotives.
After the war, he became an executive with Western Electric and later retired in Florida.
Mr. Bradley, 86, died Thursday of natural causes at his Duncanville home, where he had lived for four years.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Mr. Bradley was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters for his service as a 1st lieutenant in the Army Air Forces.
"He wore the Distinguished Flying Cross on a lovely gold chain, he wore it every day of his life," said his wife, Rosamond "Roz" Bradley of Duncanville. "He deserved to wear it. He was a national hero."
Mr. Bradley's missions included flying air support for the D-Day invasion.
"He flew cover all along that beach," his wife said. "The Germans were there with their fighters, and Bob was in there chasing them."
Born in South Groveland, Mass., Mr. Bradley entered flight training after graduating from high school.
After the war, he took an entry-level position with Western Electric in North Andover, Mass., where he became an executive. The company became part of Lucent Technologies, now Alcatel-Lucent.
He retired to Daytona Beach, Fla., where he lived for 22 years before moving to Duncanville to be near family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bradley is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Colby of Duncanville and Roz Bradley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside Service is 10 AM, Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, Shelter A, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas.
