Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Guilford College United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Hazel Greer Blackwelder was born on June 17, 1926, in Rocky Mount, Virginia, to Parry French and John J. Greer. Mrs. Blackwelder graduated from West End High School and received her RN from Carolinas College of Health Sciences, Charlotte Memorial Hospital in 1947.
She was married to Dr. Robert M. Wilhoit and moved to Asheboro, after Dr. Wilhoit completed his military service, where she raised two sons, Robert Edmond Wilhoit of Asheboro and Mark Steven Wilhoit of Raleigh.
In 1981, Hazel married Willis (Wick) Eugene Blackwelder and moved to Greensboro, where she made a happy home at 5404 Tory Hill Drive for over 26 years.
Mrs. Blackwelder was a long time volunteer at First United Methodist Church in Asheboro and at Guilford College United Methodist Church in Greensboro. She served on the Asheboro Board of the American Red Cross. She loved her family and friends and playing golf and bridge.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert Wilhoit in 1978. Also predeceasing her in death were her parents; brother, French and sisters, Virginia G. Welder, Margaret G. Kane and June Greer.
Surviving are her husband, Willis (Wick) Blackwelder of Greensboro; two sons, Robert E. Wilhoit and wife, Lana of Asheboro, Mark S. Wilhoit of Raleigh; and stepsons, Gene Blackwelder and wife, Karen of Winston-Salem, Mike Blackwelder and wife, Belle of Greensboro; grandchildren, Tyler Wilhoit of Charlotte, Lindsay Wilhoit of Asheboro, Chris Wilhoit of Wilmington, Windy Gilbert and husband, Jason of Wilmington, and Michelle Blackwelder of Greensboro; brothers, Richard Greer of Southern Pines, Jay Greer and wife, Barbara of Aberdeen; sisters, Juanita G. Auman of Aberdeen, Ruth G. Wilson and husband, Cliff of Savannah, Georgia.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. this evening at Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel, 5926 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, N.C.
