He was born on June 25, 1943, in Smyth County, Va., to the late Claude James Rich and Edith Hazel Hall Rich.
Roger was a member and ordained deacon of the Sharon Baptist Church. In his earlier years, he sang with his family as the Servants and later with his wife and family as the Rich Family Gospel Singers.
He was an employee of Global Technologies in Wytheville, Va. with 45 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Lucille Rich; three daughters & spouses, Sherry & Dewey Long, Sheila & Gary Davenport , all of Rural Retreat, & Kristi and Danny Rash, of Sugar Grove, Va.; three grandchildren, Haven and Kade Davenport, and Courtney Rash; three sisters and spouses, Patsy and Kenny Wise, of Schnecksville, Pa., Shirley and Richard Robbins , of Marion, Va., and Lola "Bunchie" Hall , of New Orleans, La.; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Rural Retreat Pentacostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Jack Rutherford, the Rev. Donnie Medley, and the Rev. Roger Crigger officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, March 25, 2008, at the Rural Retreat Pentacostal Holiness Church or at the home at any time.
