HEIL, JOSEPH MICHAEL, 72 - of Atlantic City, passed away at Shore Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 7, 2008. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mr. Heil had been an Atlantic City resident for the past 40 years. Joseph served in the US Navy aboard the USS Kearsarge CVA-33. Following military service, he moved to Atlantic City where he started his career with "Mrs. Smith's Pies" as a delivery/sales driver, earning the nick-name "Joe the Pieman". Later, he worked for Resorts Hotel/ Casino for a few years and then at the former Gibbons Tavern at Florida and Fairmount Avenues. He retired from Bally's where he worked for many years. Joseph enjoyed playing games, especially video games. He also enjoyed playing poker and watching wrestling. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing and crabbing. Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Michael J. and Margaret (nee Crowley) Heil, one brother, two sisters and a few step-children. Surviving him are many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. The Funeral Mass for Joseph Michael Heil will be Celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, California and Atlantic Avenues, A.C. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. at the Church. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, donation in his memory may be made to: The American Cancer Society, 626 North Shore Road, Absecon, N.J. 08201
