General Marcel Serret, was comanding the 66th division during the terrible battles on the 'Hartmannswillerkopf' where he was severly wounded. Taken back in Moosh military hospital, he died from his injuries on January the 6th 1916. One year before, he was commanding one of the two french divisions which won the 'Metzeral battle' (June 1915). A museum at Saint Amarin wears his name: Serret Museum. Henry Bordeaux wrote a book about his life : 'VIE ET MORT DU GENERAL SERRET POUR L'ALSACE' ( printed by Plon - first release in 1927 ).
