Welsh - Funeral services for Ray S. Folkland, 96, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005 at First Baptist Church in Welsh, with Rev. John Couch officiating.

Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh, under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home.

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and from 2 p.m. untill the time of services at the church.

Mr Folkland died on Friday, Dec. 2, 2005 at a local care center. He lived in Welsh for 67 years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Welsh, where he was a deacon since 1950. He was the song leucler for 25 years, still singing for the lord untill he died. He was a retired rice and cattle farmer and was a wonderful father to his daughters.

Survivours include his daughters, Jean Benson of Houston, Madeline Phelps of Fredricksburg, Va., Lola Rae Green of Huddleston, Va., and Shelia Brown of Welsh; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Eva Lopez Folkland.
