Hazel Rose Kelly Brewer Griffith, 89, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2008. She was born February 27, 1918 in Leedy, Oklahoma to Harley and May West Kelly. At age 3 her family moved to Mulberry and she remembered crossing the Arkansas River at Webbers Falls on the ferry. She later moved to Fort Smith and attended the old Trusty School. She excelled and was able to advance two grade levels, catching up with her older brother. At age 18 she married James Brewer and they were married for 25 years. In 1961 she married Frank Griffith and they enjoyed 39 years together. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she taught junior boys Sunday school class and played piano for childrens church. Over the course of 25 years she helped raise 25 foster children. She and Frank took pride in their vegetable garden. They grew grapes and harvested their pecan and fruit trees. She enjoyed canning and feeding her family healthy food. She loved to read, work the crossword puzzle every morning and watch cooking shows on T.V. Throughout her life she was very artistic and applied her talents to many different mediums. She began sewing at a very young age. She produced clothing for her children, quilts for her family and even made a wedding dress. She and her sister took ceramic class making many beautiful pieces. She and her husband enjoyed senior bowling for many years.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Roselawn Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters Phyllis Brewer Shaw of Fort Smith, AR, Melissa Scott and husband Keith of Van Buren, AR, one son J. H. Tim Brewer and wife Shirley of Greenwood, AR, three stepdaughters DeOtis Kent of Oracle, AZ, Linda Torres of Daggett, CA and Rochelle Angel of Van Buren, AR, one stepson Frank Griffith, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM, numerous grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren
