McDONALD, LAWTEN - age 76 of Oneida, Tenn. passed away Thursday, August 24, at St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville. Born in Scott County, Tenn. June 25, 1924 he was the son of the late ERNEST LEON and VIRDA CROSS McDONALD. He was a member of the Oneida Church of Christ and a United States Navy veteran of WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, ALENE PHILLIPS McDONALD; two brothers, LAWRENCE McDONALD and an infant brother; and one sister, JO RUTH LAY. He is survived by his wife, SHIRLEY FAYE McCOY CROSS McDONALD; three daughters, BETH GIBBS and husband, ARTIE of Hartsville, Tenn., KATHY ARMSTRONG and husband, STEVE of Oneida, and JULIE SHOOK and husband, DEXTER of Hiawassee, Ga.; four grandchildren, LEE and AMANDA ARMSTRONG of Oneida and BARRY and ALEX GIBBS of Hartsville, Tenn. He also leaves many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 26, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Brother, JAMES ARD officiating. Burial will follow in the Hazel Valley Cemetery in Oneida. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 12 until time of the funeral services at 2 p.m. Jones & Son Funeral Home Oneida, Tenn. He was a member of Oneida Church of Christ and a United States Navy veteran of World War II, and retired from the Oneida Post Office as a rural mail carrier with 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Fay McCoy McDonald of Oneida; three daughters, Beth Gibbs and husband, Artie of Hartsville, Tenn., Kathy Armstrong and husband, Steve of Oneida, and Julie Shook and husband, Dexter of Hiawassee, Ga.; four grandchildren, and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted August 26, 2000, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. James Ard and Bro. Larry Cole officiating. Internment followed in Hazel Valley Cemetery.
