Fern Leftwich Andrews, 84, of Galax, passed away Monday, January 28, 2008, at Golden Living-Beverly Blue Ridge in Galax, VA. She was born September 3, 1923 to Lafayette & Nora Brendle Leftwich in Carroll County, VA. Fern is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Walter Glen Andrews, Jr., of the home; son & daughter-in-law, W.G. Andrews III & Jill, of Charlotte, NC; a daughter & son-in-law, Betty Jo & Bill Carpenter, of Lexington, KY; one grandson & daughter-in-law, Cea & Jessica Carpenter; one great-granddaughter, Tori Carpenter. Also surviving are two sisters, Helen Lamkin of Collinsville, VA and Hope Conway of Raleigh, NC; a brother-in-law & wife, Linton Andrews & Sue, of Independence, VA; five nieces & their husbands, Bonnie Wright, Kitty Lou Conway, and Ann Forbes & husband, Mike, Ramona Campbell and David, Robin Sykes and Tony; four nephews, Danny McCarter & Jenny, J. B. Lamkin & Winona, Tony Lamkin & Donna, and Bobby Lamkin. Fern (Andy) was a devoted and loving wife of sixty-four (64) years who dedicated herself to her husband and children. She never spoke a harsh word to anyone and was always so thankful to others who helped her. She had a great love for birds and animals and kept them very well fed. She will be remembered for her kindness and love she showed to all. The funeral service will be held Wednesday January 30, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Galax, VA, with the Rev. Walt Simmerman officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Felts Cemetery.
