Ed was born in New York and grew up in Manhattan Hell's Kitchen area, a rough part of New York. He came to the South to attend The University of Mississippi, also known as Ole Miss, located in Oxford Mississippi.

From there, he entered into the police academy, in Memphis, TN. He wanted to become an officer and in 1979, he did. For almost 29 years he worked as an officer and detective in Shelby County, Memphis, TN.

He rose in rank from uniformed patrol. In 1989, he was promoted to sergeant, then to lieutenant in 1998. In 2005 his latest and current assignment was supervisor of the harbor patrol.

Memphians were very familiar with Ed, in the fall of 2006, during his patrol the news media recorded his efforts to save a giant manatee that had swum up the Mississippi River and into the Wolf River Harbor. Despite his efforts this poor mammal did not make it.

A few years after his divorced from Michelle, Ed started dating my sister, Cindy. They dated and became engaged. They never could find the right time that was a good date for both of them. They lived together seven years. Although, Cindy and Ed's realtionship also ended, Cindy and Courtney have remained very close. Courtney's mom, Michelle and Cindy are still friends to this day.

Ed's daughter Courtney was and is a beautiful caring young woman. I watched her grow from a shy little girl into a confident young woman.

Ed loved his daughter very much. He just became a grandfather, a few months ago and doted on his little grandson, whom he called Duke. He looked forward to watching Duke grow up into manhood.

Most people describe Ed as a gentle giant, a big man with a big heart. A loyal and special friend.

Cause of death: Murdered

Someone came in or was waiting on Ed at his house. He was murdered, shot in the head. This would not be easy for anyone to surprise or to get the upper hand on Ed. He was 6'8" tall, weighted 350 lbs and was NO coward.

On January 31, Ed left Memphis and took his last flight back home to New York.
