Newman Henry Bailey, 47, Rt 3, Madison Heights, for 29 years in the U.S. Maritime Service, died in Lynchburg General Hospital last night at 6:45 after an illness of three months. He was born in Brookneal VA to Lillie H. Bailey, who survives, and the late Leslie Vince Bailey. He was a member of the Brookneal Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife Agnes Hudson Bailey; two daughters, Maxine Virginia and Audrey Lee; two sons Robert Henry and William Howard, all of Rt 3 Madison Heights; two sisters Mrs Cornelia Bailey Mays, of Richmond, VA and Mrs. Eulalia Bailey Atkins of Arlington, VA, and one brother James R. Bailey of Brookneal.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Maxwell Bailey who was born in 1920 in Campbell Co., VA and died while serving his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was buried at sea.
