Mrs. Esther E. Burger, 76, of 512 Clayton Ave., Waynesboro, Friday evening, Aug 25, in the Quincy United Methodist Home. She had been in failing health for several years and critically ill for the last three months. she was admitted to the nursing home June 10.

Born Feb 24, 1913 in Darlington, Md. she was the daughter of the late William H. and Mary Ellen (Wallace) Main.

She graduated from Dublin (Md.) High School in 1931 and received her bachelor's degree in education with a major in English from Western Maryland College in 1935. She taught in the Aberdeen (Md.) School District for three years.

She had lived in Waynesboro since she and her husband were married in 1938. She served as a substitute teacher in the Waynesboro area School District for several years, then taught seventh-grade English in the district for 21 years before retiring in 1975.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

She also was a member of the National Retired Teachers' Association, the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers' Association and the Franklin County Retired Teachers' Association.

In addition to her husband, Paul Whitmore Burger, she is survived by a son, Stephen P. Burger of Edmonds, Wash., three grandchildren; and three brothers, Samuel Main of Ocala, Fl., John Main of Bel Air, Md., and James Main of Churchville, Md.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Grove Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Mentzer and Chaplain Edward Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Price's Church Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the services on Monday.
