Our loving mama and nannie, Gloria Mae Marshall Booker, 75, of 172 Vine Street, Mount Airy, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Booker was born September 14, 1932, in Wyoming County, WV, to the late Dewey William and Laura Tobler Marshall. She was a first grade teacher at Rockford Street School for 15 years and later a substitute teacher at B.H. Tharrington Elementary School. Mrs. Booker was a member of Harvest Field Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Brother David Heath and Julie and Jamie Hill, all of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Brittney Heath and special friend, Rusty Herman, Cayden Hill, Carson Hill, and Carley Hill, all of Mount Airy; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Recie and Thurman Miller of Mount Hope, WV, and June Marshall and Stevie and Harry Williams, all of Helen, WV. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Booker was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Edward Booker. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 3, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by Brother David Heath and the Rev. Dewayne Sands, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Road, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28210.
