Are Vivian Allen, 85, of 795 Wilda Road, died Saturday, December 29, 2007, at Avante Nursing home, after a short illness.

Mrs. Allen, known by her family and friends as Vivian or Sharp, was born January 12, 1922, the daughter of the late Maywood Sorrells and Clarence Henry Coffey.

She was raised around the Montebello and Tye River areas of Nelson County and was a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church. She retired from Blue Ridge Christian Home as a nurse's aide.

Vivian spent most of her leisure time camping, visiting family and friends.

In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Allen; son, Ronald Dennis Allen; granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Harris; sisters, Velma Quick, Elaine Bryant, Shirley Maddox; and a half-brother, J. D. Fitzgerald.

Vivian is survived by two sons, Roger Dale and his wife, Harriet, of Greenville, Lynn D. (Butch) and his wife, Barbara, of Stuarts Draft; two daughters, Peggy Bryant and her husband, Allen, of Scottsville, Sue Taylor and her husband, Don, of Waynesboro; one brother, William H. Coffey; four sisters, Vera Falls, Genievie Moyer, Georgie Phillips, Betty Coffey; and half-sister, Josephine Carr; grandchildren, Melisa Fretwell, Donna Turner, Annette Chandler, Wanda Bryant, Tammy Evans, Jerry Dale Allen, Bucky Allen, Jeff Jones, Mark Eavers; great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Ashley, Steven Fretwell, Kristen and Timothy, T. J. Jones, Brandy Bryant, T. J. Bailey, Brandon Roach, Mathew and Steven Evans, Garland Branch, Adrienna Turner, Allen and Brooke Chandler, Samantha and Alexis Allen; one great-great grandchild, Cameron Fretwell; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, special friends; and caregiver, Arlene Cleveland.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, with Pastors Billy Coffey and Jim Lundy officiating. Burial will follow at Haines Chapel Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Lynn D. (Bucky) Allen, Jerry D. Allen, Robert Dennis Jones, Matt Welcher, Tommy Chandler, Randy Hewitt, Chris Marshall and David Coffey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Coffey, Clayton Coffey, Carlene and Mike Rankin, Lisa, Grant and her grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2007, at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of 795 Wilda Road, Stuarts Draft.

Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherds Childrens Home, Mt. Paran Baptist Church, P. O. Box 156 Montebello, VA 24464.
