Lita Savoie Hernandez, 102 years and 355 days old, born January 10, 1905, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2007. Mrs. Hernandez was a native of Cankton and a resident of Palmetto for 42 years.

As the matriarch of five generations, she was an independent determined lady who lived a humble life with quiet dignity. She was a model of living a God-centered and family focused life. Her open-mindedness to the world allowed her to embrace change and life long learning. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cared deeply for her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughters: Dolores Mills of Cecilia; Estelle Boudreaux and her husband Silton; Earline Bihm and her husband Tracy of Palmetto, Jacqueline Chapman and her husband Ray of Lafayette: her sister Ethia Richard (Alphin) of Cankton; grandchildren Carolyn Mills Herr, Janice Mills Mellinger, Lita Mills, Evelyn Mills LeBlanc, Keith Boudreaux, Cynthia Bordelon, Lorraine, Samuel, and Aaron Boudreaux, Sandy Bihm Zarwulkoff, Kelsey and Eric Bihm, Allen Chapman and Amy Chapman Burrows; 28 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Hernandez, her parents Adolph Savoie and Scholastique Domengeau; her siblings Marcelus, Aglia, and Wilfred Savoie, Blanche Comeaux, Clarise and Alfred Savoie, Therese Bourque, Celimen Speyrer, Beulah and Marie Savoie; her son-in-laws J.C. Dupre and Vernon Mills, and granddaughter Melissa Boudreaux Innerarity and great grandson Gabriel Mills LeBlanc.
