When Kinny arrived in Vietnam 16 January 1968, he was assigned to C Company, 3rd
Battalion, 39th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, USARV. Kinny died as a result of fragmentation wounds to the body when a friendly fire artillery round fell short of it's intended target in Go Cong Province.
