Colorado Springs, CO -- Bertella M. Ayers, 93, Colorado Springs, died Friday, June 2, 2006 at Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center, Colorado Springs.

A long time resident of Topeka, she was born November 24, 1913, RR Vermillion, Kansas, the daughter of Walter & Alberta Reicherter Taylor

She graduated from Seneca High School and attended Kansas State University. She was a teacher in Baileyville and also taught at Most Pure Heart School.

She married Kenneth R. Ayers on June 10, 1932 in Lillis. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979.

Survivors are a daughter, Beverly Shepherd, Colorado Springs, 4 grandchildren, Mary Campeau, Vancouver, WA, Stephen Shepherd, Colorado Springs, Ann Hansen, Arlington, VA, and John Shepherd; 7 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 8th at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Ayers will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm

Memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 SW 17th, 66604.
