Major League Baseball Team Owner. In 1950 he founded Marion Laboratories, a Kansas City-based pharmaceutical manufacturing firm. In 1989, Marion merged with Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals to form Marion Merrell Dow, where he served as chairman emeritus until his death in 1993. He was the owner of the Kansas City Royals baseball team, and the stadium in Kansas City, Missouri was renamed Kauffman Stadium, about a month before his death. He was originally interred at the Marion Visitor Center.
