Emilie C. Fugate, 100, died Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Goldenliving Care Center, Bella Vista.

She was born December 15, 1906 in Parkston, SD, to Christoph and Julianna (Koch) Riemann. In 1907, her parents homesteaded 10 miles southeast of Midland, where she grew up and attended rural schools through the 8th grade. She graduated from Midland High School and received her B.S. Degree from Black Hills State University, Spearfish. She also attended University of Wyoming, Laramie.

She began her teaching career in 1927 in a rural school near Midland. She also taught rural schools in Pennington County and at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Washington County in Kyle, SD.

In 1936, she moved back to Rapid City and taught in the Rapid City Public School system until retiring from Canyon Lake Elementary School in 1972.

On June 11, 1948, she married Lilburn C. Fugate at Brookings, SD.

She is survived by her sister, Martha Bonhill, Oceanside, CA, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. William Paepke officiating.

Interment followed in Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City.
