A poet and translator. One of the most learned Englishwoman of her time, she studied astronomy and ancient history, learnt Latin, French, Hebrew, Italian and Spanish, played both the spinet and the flute. She was a friend of Samuel Johnson and many other eminent men, as well as being a close confidant of Elizabeth Montagu, Hannah More, Hester Chapone, and several other members of the Bluestocking circle.
