Hays Wellons Houston, 82, came to peace with God Oct. 6, 2007, after a long illness. Born to Clarence and Katie (Kinlaw) Wellons in North Carolina, she was a longtime Newport News resident, where she met and married her late husband Royall Dewitt Houston. Hays' main happiness was raising and supporting her family, but she did pursue her interest in business by assisting in daily operations in her husband's business. Her passions included dancing, modeling, fashion and chocolate. She was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Wellons Jr. Her memory is left to be cherished by her son, Don R. Houston; a sister, Evelyn Wellons Huff; and her pride and joy, her granddaughter Kacey Houston, whom she loved watching grow into a wonderful young woman. The family received friends Oct. 9 in Peninsula Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. John T. LeGault Jr. today at 2 p.m. in Peninsula Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the Virginia Chapter of Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America Inc., 2304 Angus Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
