Washington Man Dies on Farm Near Edelstein Sunday

The Pekin Daily Times, May 5, 1937

Washington, May, 5.—E. H. Habecker, local funeral director, drove the hearse to a farm 4-1/2 miles north of Edelstein and brought back the body of Alvin Groenewald [sic], a 37-year-old farmer of that locality; who died at 12:15, Tuesday morning, following a brief illness. The body was brought to the Habecker funeral home here from whence the final rites will be held with commitment to Glen Dale cemetery, the hour and day to be announced later.

Alvin Groenwald [sic] was born on a farm northeast of here in the "Dutch Lane" locality, a son of Bonnie and Jane Miller-Groenwald and grew to manhood near here. He later married a young lady from Casenovia and they settled on a farm near Edelstein. To that union five children were born, the youngest now being about four and one-half months of age.

Beside his wife and five small children, he is survived by two brothers, Herman of Trivoli and Carl of Washburn, and a host of distant relatives in this locality. His parents and one brother and sister preceded him in death.
