Betty Elaine Borho, 59, of St. Meinrad, IN died peacefully Sunday, September 5, 2004 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Jasper, IN after an extended illness. Betty Elaine Haller was born October 9, 1944 in rural Webster County near Cowles, NE. She was the second child of five born to Joseph and Rose Sidlo Haller.

She attended schools in Webster County and later graduated from high school in 1962 from the Precious Blood Institute in Ruma, IL.

After high school Betty worked at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, NE until joining the U.S. Navy in November of 1963. She served as an operating room technician until her discharge in 1967. While serving her country, Betty met Navy hospital corpsman Leonard J. Borho. They were married on July 9, 1966 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Cloud, NE. To this union were born four daughters and a son.

After her husband retired from the Navy, the Borhos resided in Red Cloud from 1984 to 1997 before moving to St. Meinrad. A craft maker, seamstress, quilter and homemaker, she was a member of St. Meinrad Catholic Church and St. Meinrad Legion Post 366.

Preceding her in death were her father, Joseph Haller, and her son, Franz Joseph Borho, who died in infancy.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard Borho of St. Meinrad; her daughters, Rosie and husband Scott Temple of Norfolk, VA, Frances of Leonardo, NJ, Theresa of St. Meinrad, IN, and Michelle and husband Madan Bhattarai of Highlands, NJ; granddaugther, Trisha Bhattarai; mother, Rose Haller of Red Cloud; brothers, Larry Haller of Essex, IA, Roger of Yucaipa, CA, and Kenneth of Bangkok, Thailand; sister, Barbara Butcher of Avoca, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 10, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Meinrad Catholic Church with burial in the St. Meinrad Cemetery. Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand, IN was in charge of the arrangements.
