Charles Anderson

Charles Anderson, was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1814. He graduated from Miami and settled in Montgomery County. He was Colonel of the 93rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He took severe losses at Stones River and was wounded in that battle. He then resigned his commission, on February 21, 1863 and was elected lieutenant governor of Ohio later the same year and, after the death of Governor John Brough in August 1865, served as governor until January 1866. He was the brother of Robert Anderson, the commander of Ft. Sumter. He died in Kuttawa, Kentucky in 1895. He was a champion of African American rights and a pioneer advocate of the repeal of the Black Laws.
