Shirley Jean Mathis Beasley, age 64, died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. She is the daughter of the late Adam Mathis and Jessie Miller Mathis. mrs. Beasley was preceded in death by one son, Michael David Beasley; and two brothers, harold and Noel Mathis. She was a member of Buff Creek Baptist Church where she was the pianist for at least twenty-five years. Mrs. Beasley was an avid fisherman and a wonderful cook. She wrote and published a cook book entitled "shirley's Recipes" which was dedicated to her son, Michael. Mrs. Beasley knitted over 800 new baby hats for C.J. Harris Hospital over the last four years. She was part owner and an agent at Wilson Insurance for thirty-five years. Survivors include her husband, Charles J. Beasley; two brothers, Glen Mathis and wife tiny (Dorothy) of Balsam, NC, Jim Cogdill and wife Annie of Sylva, NC; twenty-nine nieces and nephews; and tweny great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday January 11, 2006, 7:00 - 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home, 714 W. Main St. Sylva, NC with the services on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 2:00 PM in Buff Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Gerald Morris, Dr. Harold Anderson, and Rev. Harry Vance will be officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Sylva, NC.
