Merle D. Bechler, age 94, of Sac City, Iowa passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2005, at the Loring Hospital in Sac City. Merle Dell Bechler was born on August 19, 1911, in Lytton, Iowa the son of Roy and Sabrie (Wilcox) Bechler. Merle attended country school in North Dakota where the Bechler family farmed. When Merle was 15 years old the family moved to a farm north of Sac City.
On September 27, 1928, Merle was united in marriage to Neva Grace Ellis at the Christian Church parsonage in Sac City. They raised four children: Cordis, Ann, Colleen and Caralyn. After the couple was first married they farmed in Sac County until moving to Tiffin, Iowa in 1958 where Merle worked as a custodian at the Oakdale T.B. Sanitarium retiring in the late 1970's. Following retirement, Merle and Neva remained in the Iowa City area until moving to Sac City in the early 80's. Merle loved to fish and do his gardening and tend to the yard. He and Neva spent many hours taking rides in the car and spent every summer in Minnesota.
His survivors include, one son: Cordis Merle Bechler and his wife Barbara of Sac City; three daughters: Ann Johnson and her husband Virgil also of Sac City, Colleen Vivian Hampton of Knoxville, IA and Caralyn Lea Bechler of Giard, Iowa; and one brother: Glenn Bechler of Royal, Iowa. Other survivors include his grandchildren: Shelly Chipman, Corinne Hinrichs, YaVonne Bechler, Michael Johnson, Dianne McWhirter, David Johnson, Jerry (Chip) Godsey, Bryan Godsey, Karalea Godsey, Colleen (Muffin) Augustine, Kylie Augustine, Brynnan Junk, Christopher Junk, and Adam Junk; great-grandchildren: Pari, Elijah, Jess, Carley, Edward, Lisa, Matthew, Jerry Lee, Veronica, Daisia, Nathen, Larisha, Khristofer, Zada, Aven, and Justin: and six great-great grandchildren.
