Ruth L. Akins

Ruth L. Akins, 87, Latour, died Aug. 26, 2007, at Holden Manor Care Center in Holden.
She was born May 28, 1920, in Ft. Scott, Kan., the daughter of Jessie I. and Gladys E. (Manion) Giddens.

March 17, 1937, she married Clyde W. Akins in Butler.

Mrs. Akins operated the switchboard in Latour at one time. Later, she and her husband owned and operated a restaurant and gas station business. More recently, she operated a grocery store in Latour.

Mrs. Akins enjoyed gardening, flowers, woodworking and sewing for her grandchildren. She was known for her cooking.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, Clyde, on Nov. 14, 1967; two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are five children, Bonnie Riffle, Latour, Clyde Akins and his wife, Phyllis, Wheatland, Patricia Thurman and her husband, Mike, Kingsville, Beatrice Wurdeman, Cole Camp, and Ted Akins, Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Tom Giddens and his wife, Ruby, Arcadia, Kan., and Ike Giddens and wife, Wanda, Tulsa; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Casket bearers were Michael Thurman, Bobby Ward, Wes Wurdeman, Rick Snell, Rodney Snell, Donnie Akins, Shannon Akins and Travis Lutz.

Services were Aug. 30 at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden with the Rev. Chuck Kaighen officiating.

Burial was in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, under the direction of the Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden.
