The second child of Alstyne and Carrie Blauvelt,she graduated from Wellesley College in 1894. Her Grandmother Anna Hutton Blauvelt, gave her a Bible when she was age three with her name and date 1874, in gold on the cover. It is still here with us.

She committed suicide by drowning while at the family's summer house, "The Pathway", and is buried with her parents and 2 of her siblings.
Her surviving brother Warren and sister Mary published a book of her poems following her death, "Poems, Anna Hutton Blauvelt."
In the forward, they say,"Our sister Nan would not have called herself a poet. But, 'she was one with all things that e'er her Father fathered. Joy was the grace she said to God.' Because these verses express to some extent her spirit, we have published them- - for those who loved her spirit." We have copy of "Poems" next to her bible.
