Then in 1894, he moved them to Lawrence County, Arkansas seeking a dryer climate. He went back to White County, Indiana to sell the farm, got sick and died there on September 23, 1895. A newspaper article found in Monticello states that he was buried in the Ploss Cemetery near Headlee. ( I understand that this cemetery is called Mt. Pleasant today )
The family story goes that in February of 1896, in the dead of winter, his body was taken to Arkansas by his oldest son, Bert Brown, but I have no proof. The story goes on to say that he was buried under a tree near the Arkansas and Missouri border because the Arkansas law officials wouldn't allow them to bring the body across the border.
