For ten seasons, he was one of the first modern era relief pitchers playing with the Boston Red Sox (1947-49), St Louis Browns in 1950, Chicago White Sox (1951-55) and Baltimore Orioles in 1956. He ended his career with a record of 45 wins, 43 loss, 13 complete games, 2 shutouts, 44 saves, 332 strikeouts and a 3.83 earned run average. He died at age 79 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
