Major League Baseball Player. Born in Swoyersville, Pennslyvainia, he was a right handed pitcher signed as a amateur free agent making his debut with the Boston Red Sox on April 15, 1947. For ten seasons, he was one of the first modern era relief pitchers playing with the Boston Red Sox (1947-49), St Louis Browns in 1950, Chicago White Sox (1951-55) and Baltimore Orioles in 1956. He ended his career with a record of 45 wins, 43 loss, 13 complete games, 2 shutouts, 44 saves, 332 strikeouts and a 3.83 earned run average. He died at age 79 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
