HALL SUMMIT, LA - Elvin Roy Alford, 62, of Hall Summit, LA passed away on July 22, 2007 after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Funeral services will be held at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 11 A.M. Officiating will be Bro. Jack Bell. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Hall Summit, LA. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 24, 2007 from 6 P.M. until 9 P.M. at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home.

Mr. Alford was born July 1, 1945 in Powhatan, LA. He worked as a dragline operator at Dolet Hills Lignite Company and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. "Monk," as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren, loved spending time with his family.

Elvin was preceded in death by his parents, Tressie and Mayfield Alford, Sr.; sister, Addie Wood; and brothers, Clyde Tate, Edgar Alford, Merrel Alford, Mayfield (Slick) Alford, Jr., Robert Alford and Jerrel Alford.

Elvin is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Mary Frances (Fran) Stevens Alford; two sons, Ken Alford and wife, Tonya of Minden, LA and Scott Alford and wife, Elizabeth of Jamestown, LA; one daughter, Heather Alford Randolph and husband, Jason of West Monroe, LA; four brothers, Bide Tate of Coushatta, LA, Bill Alford of Shreveport, LA, Albert Alford of Natchitoches, LA and Jimmy Alford of Benton, LA; four sisters, Clara Solice and Doris Pleasant of Robeline, LA, Ann Person of Harrison, AR, and Juanita Duval of Haughton, LA; five grandchildren, Hunter, Elise, and Claire Alford and Gavin and Hayden Randolph; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Stanley Moseley, Paxton Moseley, Mark Moseley, Kenneth Norred, Randy Wilson and Wayne Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be Warren Perkins, Jasper Norred, and W.D. Yates.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Robert Massingill and nurse Cheryl Brumbaugh for their compassionate care during Elvin's illness. Also, a special thanks to the staff and personnel of Grace Home.
