Bailey Goodman: 'A big personality - was a lot of fun'
Whatever Bailey Goodman did — from cheerleading to camping with friends from church — she always had her beautiful smile, said family friend Vicki Deady.
"She had a big personality and was a lot of fun," said Deady, who watched 17-year-old Bailey grow up at Fairport United Methodist Church.
Bailey was planning to attend Ithaca College and study marketing and communications in the fall.
"The last time I saw them was when I handed them their diplomas five days ago," said David Paddock, Fairport High School principal of Bailey and four friends killed Tuesday in an auto accident. "I would have seen some of them this weekend because I had been invited to some of their graduation parties.
"It's a very close class," he said, "and they really care about each other."
Bailey, who admired her older brother, was the jester of the cheerleading squad, her friends said.
"She was like the entertainer," said Kelly Ludwig, a cheerleader who also graduated this year. "She was so funny."
She succeeded in making the cheerleading squad comfortable instead of competitive for the members, Kelly said.
"Bailey was basically the funniest one on the team," said Tracy Critelli, an incoming senior. "She had a lot of inside jokes and gave a lot of motivating talks."
Cheerleading coach Elaine Deignan agreed.
"She was outgoing and always making people laugh."
Cheerleading was one of the most important things in Bailey's life, said Deady.
"I think the cheerleaders were like family," she said.
Besides cheerleading, Bailey was a good student who was in the Spanish National Honor Society and helped with the asset team — a group that uses positive experiences such as having good role models to help children become healthy adults.
"She was a dynamic young woman," Deady said.
Funeral arrangements for Bailey, daughter of Michael Goodman and Sharon Handler-Goodman, have not been announced.
