Essie "Nanny" Rasbury, 89, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016, in a local care center.

She was a native of Quitman and had been a resident of Sulphur for the last 65 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur where she was a member of the W.M.U. Nanny loved to travel and also enjoyed reading, sewing, baking cornbread, and having tea with her friends. She loved her makeup, especially her lipstick.

Survivors include her daughter, DeLane Peel and husband, Johnny of Sulphur; her siblings, Dessie Pyles (her twin) of Jonesboro, Carolyn Harvey of Quitman, and Carroll Hinton of Sulphur; five grandchildren, Karen Jones, Kristi Cole, Keith Peel, Monika Jinks, and Rick Miller; eight great-grandchildren, Mindy Kaye Blanchard, Michael Jones, Kaleb Cole, Tiffany Cole, Nicholas Cole, Mollie Cole, Savannah Patin, and Kristin Brown; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Rasbury; two daughters, Sandra Sue Hobson and Marilyn Kaye Rasbury; and a sister, Vonice Coleman.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 15, in Antioch Cemetery in Quitman under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Monty Jones will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to High Hope Care Center in Sulphur. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
