Born in Cecil County, Maryland around 1802, James Scott Hukill found his way to Arkansas around the late 1849s.
He was a postmaster at Evansville, Arkansas and served for a brief time in the Spanish/American War.
He served for a time as postmaster in Greenwood, Arkansas to help his son, Dr. Mark Maitland Hukill out.
He was also a Justice of the Peace in Sebastian County for a period of time. Records indicate he was an active JP.
He was married three times.
1st to Caroline West in Washington County, Arkansas.
2nd. to Elizabeth MaryAnn Shannon.
3rd. to Mary Elizabeth Beatty
There were numerous children from these unions.
James died in 1876 and according to a letter I have, his sons JR and Mark Hukill attended to his burial.
Many ancestors still live in this area, as well as Texas, Oklahoma and Oregon.
His 3td wife Mary Beatty Hukill had remarried and moved to Colorado with new husband John Lauk.
