Mr. Balatche-Magoosh passed away June 14 in Mescalero.
He was born April 11, 1954 in Mescalero to Linda Lou Balatche-Magoosh and Gerald Magoosh, Sr.; his mother precedes him in death.
He had lived in Mescalero all of his life and worked various jobs in the Mescalero area which include working at Ski Apach as a lift operator, the recreation department with the late Riley Chino and with the night crew at the community center.
He left Mescalero briefly to attend and graduate from a heavy equipment operator school in Chicago, Ill.
When he returned to Mescalero, he enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, golfing and hanging out with friends and family.
But his real passion was singing with the Chee family or the Botella family at various blessings and cremonials, and of course one can't forget the 49s he participated in.
Any feast gathering you saw Kirby at he always had a drum in hand ready to sing.
He is survived by his father, Gerald Magoosh, Sr.; sisters, Beverdine Tortilla, Debra Morgan and her husband Aldridge, Gerlinda Coonie and her husband Hubert, Sr., Myra LaPaz, and Garnett LaPas; brothers, Gerald Magoosh, Jr., Lionel Magoosh and his wife, Cathy, Christie LaPaz, Jr. and his wife Pearlita, Patrick LaPaz and his wife Emma; aunts and uncles, Velda and Daniel Garcia, Sr., Ceda and Joseph Shanta, Elaine Valdez, Nadina Rice, Sandra Balatche, Ester Balatche and Fawn Via, William Magoosh III, Quintin Balatche, Cordell and Rita Balatche, Norbert and Janice Via and numerous nephews and nieces.
