Air Force Senior Airman William Nathaniel Newman, 23, of American Fork, Utah and then Kingston Springs, Tennessee, was assigned to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team of the 15th Civil Engineer Squadron, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.

He died June 7, 2007 south of Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.

His mother passed away a month later. He is survived by his wife and his three sisters.

A memorial for William Nathaniel Newman is maintained at the Highland Cemetery, in Highland, Utah, with a tree planted and a plaque at its base (a photo is shown here of that memorial).
