Leona was born on July 10, 1916 in Adams County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Gustav Miller and the late Martha (Conrad) Miller. She married the late Elbert C. Berning on June 2, 1949 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim in rural Decatur, Indiana and he passed away on August 15, 1991. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Old Decatur Road, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Leona was also a homemaker.
Surviving are her son, Eugene W. (Sylvia) Berning of Decatur, Indiana, son, Steven A. (Marlene) Berning of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, six grandchildren: Mark, Dale, Todd, Lyle, Ben, and Kelsey Berning; and four great-grandchildren: Ethan, Noah, Hannah, and Myra Berning.
Services were entrusted to Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home of Decatur, Indiana.
