Cousin Lois had shown me the photo of the Ben Longacre set up on the Joseph Longacre stone, so I had an idea where to look, I had a shovel that I had used earlier in the day to re-set the smaller stones in Chapel Hill cemetery. I was so excited by finding the Ben Longacre gravestone pieces that I sort of lost it for awhile.
Each piece weighed over 100 pounds, and it was raining. By the time I dug them up, and got them into the car, I was covered in mud. At the motel I had to wrestle them into the tub, they were as covered in mud as was I, so I climbed in with it, turned the water on and started scraping mud off me, as I got each piece of clothing clean, I took it off and proceeded to the gravestone. There was so much mud I had to use the ice bucket to scoop it into the toilet to flush it. The next morning I woke and it hit me, what was I going to do with it? Couldn't take it home on the plane. Lois or Jim White had given me a flyer with an ad for a grave stone restorer in Pleasant Hill, I called him, met him about 8:00 AM and by 9:30 we'd struck a deal and I was able to leave it with him.
