SSgt. Vickers entered the Army on 23 Jul 1942 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he was living at that time, working for the Railway Express Agency as a truck driver.
He served with Company D, 36th Armored Infantry Regiment, 3rd Armored Division, Camp Polk, Louisiana. He was involved in various unit maneuvers, and in June 1943, his unit was in the midst of preparing for overseas movement to England in September, according to the history of the unit.
He died from injuries sustained in a vehicle crash, in Webster, Louisiana.
He left a wife, Hazel, whom he'd married in 1938.
