Mrs. Allison Is Taken by Death; Funeral Is Held.
~ Mrs. Ethel McCraw Allison, 81, died at her home at 115 First street about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday following several years of declining health.
~ She was the widow of Landrum F. Allison, a foreman of the Cherokee County chain gang for many years, who died May 24, 1952.
~ Mrs. Allison had been a member of Grassy Pond Baptist church for more than 60 years.
~ Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Grassy Pond church by the Rev. E. Gray Jones, the pastor, and the Rev. Olen Kendrick, pastor of the Providence Baptist church. Interment was in the Grassy Pond cemetery with the Shuford-Hatcher Company, morticians, in charge.
~ The pallbearers were Donald, I.A., Earl, Darwin, Ralph and Conway McCraw, Winfred Humphries and Dever Allison.
~ Mrs. Allison is survived by four daughters, Mrs. A.M. Duncan, Mrs. J.V. Jolly, Miss Maggie Allison and Miss Bessie Allison, of Gaffney; two sons, Charles Allison, of Gaffney, and Sergeant Everett Allison,of Fort Jackson; a sister, Mrs. John Humphries,of Gaffney; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
~ Honorary pallbearers included Dr. J.C. Hall, Dr. V.H. Lipscomb, Conrad Jones, Danford Phillips, Wayne LeMaster, Swofford Quinn, Jack Morgan, Haile LeMaster, J.B. Wood, Louis Huskey, Lamott Hamrick, M.D. Scruggs, Garland Sarratt and Albert Mathis.
