Mary Bothwell was born at "Old What" Farm on the Mains of Old What, Aberdeenshire, Scotland October 5, 1867. Mary was only four years old when the family left their homeland and farm in Scotland to settle on 1,000 acre farm "Cornelia" in the area of what is now Aloha, Oregon. She arrived with nine other of the Wm. and Catherine Chalmers children. Alexander the eldest son had remained in Oregon to manage the farm while his father returned to Scotland for the family move.
