When 19, helped build the Guthrie High School, now the Junior High School located on East Oklahoma Avenue.

In 1933, he bought his father's blacksmith ship where he worked until he retired in 1966.
He was known for his blacksmith and welding work as far away as Shreveport, Louisiana.
