George R. 'Bucky' Baker Jr., 46
HARRINGTON - George R. "Bucky" Baker Jr. of Harrington died Friday, May 4, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 46. He was born in Milford, son of Doris Ann Baker and the late George R. Baker Sr. Mr. Baker worked at the Harrington Raceway maintaining the racetrack. He was an equipment operator for the past 10 years and made sure the track was properly maintained for the races by using various equipment, including the grader and water truck, which earned him the nickname "Water Truck Buck." The racetrack was like his second home and he took his job seriously, and loved what he did. In his younger days, he not only owned, but also trained horses. For the past 15 years, he gave up training, but still owned several standardbred horses. Horses and racing were his love and passion in life. In his spare time, he enjoyed all sports. He enjoyed watching his children play baseball and softball. He was a big NASCAR fan, and Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver. The Kentucky Derby was one of his favorite days of the year, and he looked forward to watching the derby. Mr. Baker also enjoyed playing with his dog Sammy. He had a loving personality, and if you knew him, you'd love him. He will be sorely missed by his family and close friends. Mr. Baker was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association and the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Dawn R. Baker of Harrington; two sons, Kevin R. Baker of Felton, and Christopher J. Baker of Harrington; four daughters, Jessica M. Baker of Milford, Chelsea T. Walls of Milford, Brianna J. Walls of Milford, and Kayla N. Baker of Harrington; his paternal grandmother, Margaret Baker of Felton; a brother, Michael Baker of Felton; a sister, Diana Harrison and her husband Jose Carrillo of Houston; five grandchildren, Tyler, Gage, Cali, Austin and Brice Baker, all of Dover; and several nieces nephews, aunts and uncles. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Sandtown. Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. www.melvinfuneralhome.com
